ok here is the myspace of a couple buddies of mine Friends Band , they had their tracks professionally recorded and mixed, then heres a track that I recorded of my own band My Band , a home recorded job and home mixed (very amateur i might add)

help me realize the different in how the professional one sounds versus mine...

i can tell that the keyboards sound a lot more spacious..... even the drums sound perfectly placed and everything, Ah! i want that!!!!

Your friends band recording sounds good yeah. The drums could do with coming through the mix more.

ON your mix, the symbasl are louder than the kik/snare/toms.

You want to get the kik and snare and toms all up front in the mix. Use a brickwall limiter on the drums if you have to so you dont get ay peaks.
Sounds like you could do with cutting some of the lo end or lo mids to clean up your mix.

Good lcuk

i am not sure what is meant by cutting low/high frequencies? wher can I go to learn all about that? I hear it a lot

Cutting frequencies just means reducing the gain on certain frequnecies using an EQ plug-in or outboard EQ.

On this forum might be a good place to learn bits about this, but there are books. I dont know any off by heart, but im surea alot of people on here will know some good books.
