Just spent two days in a studio last week recording a new track with my band. We experimented a bit with guitar tones and effects so there's quite a few interesting sounds going on throughout the song.
The mix you are hearing is a rough mix ONLY and we are mixing it properly on Monday (I'll upload the finished one when its mastered).
In the meantime I'm looking for comments on the track as a whole, what it needs and doesn't need sonically etc. Comments on the song as well are very very welcome. All going to plan this should be our next single so comments on its general impression, similarities etc are very welcome also!

thanks, Neill.

What's that going on in the intro? It REALLY doesn't fit anything.
I like everything but it.
The intro thing sounds like you're trying to add a bit of scratching or something but it doesn't come off.
I love the little & appropriate Radiohead nods you've included in the vox occasionally. Gives me a flip back to the bends & a bit of OK.
Back to that sound - it made the intro seem like a bad start to a bad hip hop record.
I LOVE the ending - abrupt & unanticipated.
Top flight fellows. I'd like a little more definition on the bass guitar later in the piece - it is well defined earlier but that drops off in the quiet bit & doesn't quite recover when you rev up.
Oh, the cymbals seem very much panned to one side can you split them & send some over to balance it?

reminds me of Placebo quite a lot - especially the vox
i like!
the overdubs are pretty cool
cant wait to hear the final mix
i agree about the intro - perhaps it needs a few more geetar squeals - i enjoy a bit of textured noise

We're gonna do a few edits, the intro will probably go all together, maybe one bar of drums or maybe just cut straight to vox. Thanks for the comments thus far!

First I want to say I really like the tune. I listened to it four times and liked it more each time. I don't mind the intro at all. It's unusual and makes the song instantly recognizable.

The guitar tones are really good, they are what impress me the most about the track. I wouldn't mind hearing the bass punch thru the mix a bit more when the guitars are really going at it though.

I like the airy break at about one minute into the track. The reverb in this bit may be a little thick but maybe its just me (I often play guitars without reverb so I'm kind of conditioned to its total absence).

At any rate that is a really nice track, best of luck to you. I'm going to be waiting for the finished track to be posted.

I think the mix sounds great. Everything is defined within it's own region of sound and is nice and clear.

i really liked the song... but the bass should be punchier...try some eq on highs(i love the crispy things around 2khz)... But the song is great...

I think the intro grows on you, i listened to it alot and after a while i liked it and as someone else said it makes it instantly recognisable. The bass guitar needs to be punchier and brought up a bit in the mix.
Really like the song. I can deffinatly hear a bit of placebo in there. What band are you BTW?
Thanks

good tracking, i'd love to hear the mix.
i like my drums just a little louder in general. ymmv
i actually think that the bass will sit fine when a little work is done on the gits. only time will tell.

the intro is a little odd, if your going to do it, i'd say devote.
crush it a little, and add some more low end, possibly double it with an octave pedal. who knows.
sounds good at any rate.

what git's amps did you track with?

jcm 800, and les paul?
am i even close?

The song is good. Everything seems to be a little too distant as if the instruments are all 20 feet in front of you and pushed toward the center. The drums need to be louder. The guitars really seem to muddy up the mix and stomp all over the bass. My guess is that too much of one type of reverb was used on everything and it smeared the imaging causing the instruments to fight for the same space.

Guitar information...

Instruments:
Fender Toronado
Fender Jaguar
Gibson SG
Godin (no idea what model, not mine)

Amps:
Mesa Boogie Dual Rec
Fender Blues Deville

Pedals:
Crowther Hot Cake
EH Pog

Like two members before me said, it did sound a lot like early Radiohead and Placebo a bit...it was great! Any more tracks?

loved it great arrangement and groove.

think some mastering guru's around these parts could put some worthwhile time ion on this....the tunes worth it..imo.

i think it all sounds really good.
crackin song too:)
realy like the kick drum

Excellent song! Very well done. Sounds kind of like a band called 30 Seconds to Mars. If you haven't heard them yet and you're creating this kind of music, you should check 'em out. The lead singer was some dude in the movie fight club and he does a great job. Great feel to the song. The guitar breaks rocked! Keep this up man, you have a great product.

Good stuff.....not crazy about the intro but, everything else was great!!!!!!

Thanks for all the comments guys, mix is done and will be streaming on www.myspace.com/inverseorder as of tomorrow. Post any further comments here if you wish to give anymore feedback, we will still be able to make minor changes before mastering next month.

My apologies, song didn't go online as planned due to myspace outage. However it is there now!

What a great tune. I love it. I wish I could download it for my truck.
