I really liked the ambiance of 'Honey'. The whole beat seems ok to me. Simple but has the effect wanted.

I did not like the flow of the rapper on 'Ghetto Warz' and the beat. That's just no my type of beats and my type of rapper.

'Mercy On Man' is great. Some of the rappers on it just don't fit in. Would be great for a Bone Thugs 'N' Harmony type of crew.

I am listening to Ghetto wars, and this is a GREAT beat.

The singer has a voice that is very suitable for the genre but needs more emotion. I have noticed that to convey the emotion, basically, one has to yell into the microphone (listen to nas "one mic" or will "nod ya head")

This beat is off the hook, but I am not hearing a hook that I can remember or that will make me listen another 15 times straight.

The kick does not sound pro enough.

So,

Keep the beat

Create a phat hook

Improve the delivery

then Sell a million copies.
 
I agree with the voice emotion comment. I mentioned it to him he agree's as well. Say's he doesn't like the song much himself. Well, I like it. I thank both you brothaz. Anyone else?

Ghetto Warz sounds real hard... The piano is an ill sinister touch...

Drum trak sound a little to drum machine - ish......

nice beat, nice flow, but not enough melody or a strong enough hook to keep me interested. every 16 bars or so i need something to remind me of what i'm listening to.

tell your rapper that sometimes its better to skip a word than to spit it and offset your flow. (and, the, but, 'cause, etc...) connectors that can be implied by the context of the message. this is especially true of sparse arrangements where i can hear that the flow of a word is behind the hat but not far enough behind the hat to fit.

the rapper on "Ghetto Warz" does the same thing in several spots for instance: 'i need financial stacks' and '360 degrees' are off sync because of the connectors used just in front of those phrases

Mercy on Man
has a real Bone Thugs sound mostly because of the rapper and the way its mixed (duplicate vocal tracks and such), but the vocals are too far above the beat.
 
How do you find a balance? when I mix, the vocals always seem to be either too loud or too soft, it gets annoying after a while,

thats when I should take a break right?
 
you just need some more ear training... as do I.

i mastered a 3 song demo that we use for booking gigs and took it to another studio that a friend of mine owns.

everyone else that i let hear the song (non-mastering folks) loved the tune and had no complaints.

the studio dude (1worldstudios.com) barely got into the first verse before he told me that the lead vocals were too loud. the backvocals were fine, but the lead was sitting above the mix. i didn't really hear it until he pumped the track up good and loud and the lead vocal was piercing as hell while the rest of the mix was OK.

he also told me that he could hear the bleed on the congo tracks (i mic'd each congo individually and then panned them %15L %5L %5R %15R) and that the panning was confusing because of the bleed.

so i went back into the studio and re-panned the congos which also meant re-panning the drum kit (hat/snare 15% left | bass & kick down the middle | congos %15R)

i also lowered the attack of the compressor on some of the instruments to let more of the transients through. it really brightened things up.

oh well... live and learn
