coming in 2nd/presonus blue tube

This may not merit a separate thread, but I got reason to start it:

Cominginsecond mentioned the presonus blue tube as "to avoid at all costs" just as musician's friend was putting mine in a box! It'll be here Tuesday. You got me so scared I'm afraid to accept delivery! I have never used one but it looked like what I want. I can afford the $$$'ier ART pro mpa for an extra $200. But I noticed that there was no "amen" to the slam of the blue tube in the posts following the thread starter? Are these preamps really that bad? This is for miking voice and acoustic string instruments. I admit that I don't want a lot of noise. In fact, that's why I ordered it!

Please answer now as the machine is on a truck heading my way right now.

i own a blue tube.

I have a presonus blue tube, dual channel and single. It suites me fine... not noisey unless your using a like 20 dollar mic. I normally leave the drive all the way down to zero and just have the gain on like 3 and it's fine. I turn up the drive all the way to get the backround vocal that makes your voice kinda muffled/distorted effect... sounds cool. if your planning on making a living and charge $$$$ for recording other people and have a built studio, then sure this isn't gonna cut it, but for basement/room home recording it's great. dont worry you wont be like "damnit wat a waste of money!"
 
Black: Thanks for the tip. I neglected to say that I have a Fostex with internal pres, but I assumed the blue tube would sound better. Agree?

Don, you are having fun with old Rob on the price query, are you not?

I paid $149.00 for the presonus. If I got ripped off or it's otherwise a piece of shit, just tell me. This is a newbie forum, and I expect to get my knuckles rapped now and then, but only when I deserve it.

Now . . . shall I accept delivery on this blue tube or not?
 
Not pokein' fun at all..Just curious..In that price range theres not alot of difference between these small toob pres..I would have said get something without a tube in it a this price range{solidstate}...But you can still do good work with it.. just learn how to set it and how to mic your sources{the most important part of recording}..There will be instances where it will most likely do a better job than the internal pres of your Fostex..Mix 'em up and find where it sounds better than the Fostexs and where it doesn't..Have fun and don't worry..The world ain't gonna blow up..Good luck bud

The M-Audio DMP3 has a much better reputation around here than the Blue Tube, but some like the BT. I've never heard it, but the DMP3 (built around the same INA 163 Op Amp as the Grace 101) sounds fabulous on my acoustic guitar with both Marshall MXL603s and Oktava MC012 mics.
