Hi,
This is all new to me. I just joined this excellent and informative website.
Since I was a kid I have wanted to make recordings of my own from different formats
and change/edit these songs to my liking.
Perhaps it's too expensive but that's what I want to find out here so any help or advice
would be greatly appreciated. I have a huge record collection, approx. 25,000 lp's,
and lots of tape and CD's etc. Is there a way to.... play a spoken word lp record or such, lay that recording over other music, or lift parts of whole songs and add them
to an entirely different recording from multiple audio formats. Or seperate/remove certain tracks within a song to change the melody/sound etc. I hear what I want to do in my head, but I have no idea how to do it. I'm not sure if I should be looking at analog or digital equipment if in fact this can be done at home. Thanks!

What you need is something that mixes various audio sources together, where you can take the output and record it to another medium.

Logically you would need to buy a mixer, but the problem would be one of trying to time the use of various audio sources together.

I would say your best bet would be to buy some recording software for your pc (like cakewalk). This will allow you to record each source one at a time, which would be sent to their own two tracks (that is, two tracks for stereo- left and right) and you would see them in a wave format which you can easily manipulate with your mouse.

I think there is software available that will let you remove some tracks off an original audio source, but be forwarned that the software will also need to strip some of the audio quality out of the original song, because all the software can really do is rip out key frequencies of the song. You could try to cut and paste around the part you want cut out (like if you were removing vocals, you could try and loop those parts without vocals).

The blanket answer to your question is yes.

However, you will need to be a little more detailed in your questioning
