So we just got a new HP laptop a few weeks ago, and I haven't even seen it yet (it's at Hayley's house). We're open for business as of February 7, but now the laptop's freaking out and I have no way to record without it. Apparently Hayley turned on the laptop one day and the colours were completely inverted. Blacks are whites, reds are greens or whatever. Like if you use a "negative" effect on a cheap camera.
My question is, does anyone know what might've caused that and any idea how to fix it?

i have no idea what would cause that but i would recommend trying to reinstall the driver for your video card first. that might solve it, if not, there are probably others than can help you out further on the forum.

That same thing happened to a friend of mine with an HP laptop. The cable connecting the screen to the computer was loose. Sounds like you may have the same problem. He had to send it back, as doing it himself would have voided the warranty. HP paid the shipping, and had it back to him in a week.

His freaked out a few days after the 30 day return policy at the store expired, you may still have time.

Nah, we ordered ours right from HP.com and the return policy had JUST expired. I'll tell her that, though. thanks!

Haha no worries, I used to be a Mac guy. I just can't get the hang of OS X though. I'm more of an OS 7.1 guy....

I'm not familiar with HP's but try this:

Make sure the video card is installed all the way
Check the connection from the monitor to the video card
Make sure you have the correct/latest drivers
Try to see if it's the monitor itself. Maybe you can check it on another system?

You probably already did this though.

If it's not any of the above, then I have no idea. Could be a faulty video card, or cable, or anything really.

do you have another monitor anyware that you could plug into it or a tv that will take an s video input ,most laptops have one or both of these conections ,
i know this wont fix the problem but at lest you will get the right colours on a screen and be able to use it untill you can get it fixed

Wow, I totally didn't even THINK about that. Thanks! I'll check up on that.
