Hey ya'll
I'm a bit of a newbie here so i'll try to explain the best what im lookin for.
I have a budget of 300$ for a good condenser. I have some decent acoustic in my room and a presonus audiobox 22. Up untill now i used a cheap alctron and i hate it. Im ready to buy a seroius condenser, The only problem is that i'm afraid to get stuck with a liveless, too much "what you sing is what you get" mic.

Is there any decent mic in that budget that will be colorful enough to bring some decent vocals recording?
Im singing folk rock, you can call it indie if you like. I need that wide, airy and intimate sound to my recording.

Best refrences for my style would be james vincent mcmorrow's songs.

Hope you got me right!
Thank you guys

The mic is only a tiny part of a vocal sound. A "too much what you sing is what you get" mic? Don't know the artist you referenced, but I'm sure that it's more than the mic he used that defined the sound.

Well its a bit tricky to explain. I've had the luck to work in a good studio for a couple months. I can tell you that i felt that the at4040 is a "what you sing is what you get" mic. Very unflattering and thin with some of the singers who tried it.
Now on the other hand, stands the blue reactor mic which i fell in love with. Gives the vocal a rounded, mellow sound. It really brings life to vocal recordings.

I know that i won't got the same result with a 300$ mic, but i'm sure i can get a more suitable solution for me then the at4040 and rode nt1a iv'e been playing around in the last couple of months.

Hope i explained my self better.
Thanks.

In the $300 range....check out some of the ADK mics.

Like the Hamuburg, Vienna, and maybe a there's a couiple more models in that price range.

If you want detaisl, call ADK and talk to Larry Villella...tell him what you want, he'll give you an honest answer.

If you just want to buy one....check these out:

New adk Vienna MK8 Mic Cardiod Condenser Microphone 410000149416 | eBay

Adk A6 Microphone for Acoustic Sources New Belgian Design Mount Retail Box 686381000589 | eBay

Adk Hamburg MK8 Cardioid Condenser Microphone w Case New 410000149423 | eBay

The Vienna is a bit crisper, more upper end detail, while the Hamburg is a little on the smokey/dark side.
Not sure how the A6 sounds....but I would say it's maybe just a tiny step down form either of the other two...but still a nice mic for the price.
The Vienna at $289 is a great price...but they're taking offers. I bet you could get it for $250, and they normally sell for $350, like the Hamburg (which is also not a bad price if you think the Hamburg will suit you better).

[EDIT]

Here's another good mic I found on eBay....I have two of these. They were like $1200-$1400 mics when new.
It's a multi-pattern tube mic.

He's taking $450 BIN....but starting bid is $175 and no bidders, just watchers. It ends in 24 hours....so you could get it for cheap if no one else bids on it.
I was tempted to myslef...but like I said, I have two of them already, and another 8 GT mics in every flavor...so I don't really need this one. :D

I know this doesn't really contribute anything to the discussion, but I wouldn't consider a $300 condenser a mid-range mic....maybe above $700 I'd consider mid range.

THANKS ALOT Miroslav!

Definitely going to check the vienna, looks like a very good mic.

I would suggest going some where to try out a bunch of mics(guitar center) and then do some hunting on the used market. If you have cash in hand you can find incredible deals with some patience. You can easily find mics that were in the $600-700 range new, for sometimes less than half that used.

Well....that GT AM62 is still at $175 and no bids....and THAT is a great price for that particular mic seeing how it was about 8x more when new.

Heck....I would get both the GT AM62 and the Vienna. I bet they'll take an offer of $250 (maybe even $225) on the Vienna, and if the AM62 sells for $175....that would be two great & different flavor mics for $425 total.

Who's taking offers? the official website of ADK?
