Holier than thou
I'm off for a few days. Anyone have any music they'd like to get some lyrics and a melody on?

I've been in a rut for the past week or so, and I'm thinking maybe writing and singing for someone elses tunes might fix me up.

I focus mainly on acoustic folk and acoustic rock.

Any takers?

You might think about looking at some classic folk songs, they can sometimes bring inspiration! Unfortunately I don't write songs (yet) I just do covers, some to be funny and some to be serious.

good advice, Goblin. I've actually been learning Country Roads Take me Home. Dunno if you consider that to be classic folk, but it's really about as folky as I get.

What covers have you been working on?

I like that you did a version of Music of the Night. The Phantom of the Opera happens to be one of my favorite movies, and that's my favorite song from the movie. If you tightened it up a bit, and lost a good bit of the reverb, that would be SPOT ON, bro. I can dig it.

Thanks for the offer Jeff. Unfortuantely I'm in the midst of 3 collabs at present. It's not that I'm in demand - just that I need that much support.

Haha, I gotcha Ray. Know the feeling!

I've been in this habit of making covers of whatever song my wife keeps listening to.

Right now, it's "Wichita Lineman" by Glen Campbell. Can you sing that? If so, I will endeavor to do the rest.

I'll look it up and have a listen, and get back to you!

I can handle it, anitchef. I think I'll do it some justice. Send it when you track it. :)

AWESOME! REM did Witchita Lineman, and it's great.

Sweet! I'll put it next on my list. Should I use the same key as GC (and REM), or transpose? (if you'd rather wait to hear it to decide, that's fine too).

I should have some time over this weekend to make a good start and have something to you.

Hey Jeff - here's a voxless MP3 - still pretty rough, I may retrack lots of it, but should be good for vocals - I can send you any portion of this you want, or the (Logic 9) project (sort of big) or whatever. Turns out the song was written by Jimmy Webb, not Glen Campbell, btw.

I know I'll have to re-do the drums - my 3 year old engineer turned off the snare mic. She's got promise, but can't resist the colored buttons on the preamp sometimes. I only got overheads and kick drum tracks

I'll also probably re-do the solo - what you hear is really just for arrangement reference. I plan to add a lot of other little things once the vocals are in place.

Here it is again with a new drum track. I took out the standard guitar solo and put in a trumpet, which doesn't work at all - it needs vox! (but wow - I can sorta play trumpet). Soon, I'll have better (acoustic) guitar solos for it.

Actually, I confess I'm working with Chili on a side project for the vox, but I'm still here for ya, JeffChastain!

Oh, yes, and if there's anything in these scratch mixes that's puttn' you off, don't hold back - I'm not sensitive, and I can change anything/everything. I've only been playing drums for about 8 weeks, though, so we might have to bring in a drummer if it's the drums bugging you.
