Clipping problem

Ok, here goes. In multitrack sessions, I sometimes get a clipping when a clean trebly track and a heavy bass track are playing at the same time. The trebly track will clip. Here's an example: In a current session I have a distorted bass guitar playing along with drums, rhythm guitar and 3 vocal tracks. I added a track of clean, single note arpeggiated guitar. This clean track sounds fine when played solo in multi-track mode, but when I add the bass it will clip. When I mute just the bass, the clean guitar again sounds fine playing with the other tracks. Here's my system set-up.

CEP 1.2
Win98
Pentium MMX 200mkz (don't laugh!)
64mb Ram
Generic PCI sound card (Auriel Vortex? something like that.)

Any comments?
Thanks

Tom

Have you checked your Windows mixer settings.. Maybe that mixer is too hot..

Chandelier - maybe it's just the accumulating track effect. It's possible to record Track 1 so that it doesn't clip, and then record Track 2 so that it doesn't clip, but when you play them together, the whole thing clips (because there's more sound energy at work). If that's the case, just reduce the master volume a dB or two.

Thanks, I fixed it. Just needed a few well placed volume envelopes.

Happens to everyone, just reduce the master volume 1 db also envelop is useful.
