First, I've experienced problems with clicks and pops in Cool Edit Pro and I've finally narrowed it down to the soundcard - it must be the soundcard, I've replaced everything else. Besides, it's the original computer soundcard, so what else could it be? Any ideas are welcome.

Secondly,
I've been reading people's comments on the Delta 1010 soundcard on this board and so far everyone has nothing but good things to say about it. I looked it up, but I couldn't find anywhere that lists it under $1000.00. Where is this deal where I can get it for $700.00 with Vegas software???

Lastly,
I don't know if I am allowed to ask this question, but other than the free Pro-tools download coming in November, can anyone suggest any way around buying pro tools new?? I have a CD burner (hint-hint).

While I'm going to steer clear of the "free" ProTools request (I only have the downloadable one anyway), I will give you the info that I think is a steal on the 1010.

I got mine at Guitar Center for $599 with Vegas Pro, and some Sonic Foundry plugin pack full of effects. I haven't installed or even looked at the effects plugins yet so I don't know what's included. Guitar Center promoted this as a limited time offer and unique to their chain of stores. When I went and picked mine up, Vegas was already packed in the box, and the 1010 box was labled from Midiman as including all the software. So I doubt this packaged bundle is limited to only Guitar Center like they claimed, but they might still be the only ones selling it for that price. You get nothing other than the software CDs in an envelope, but I downloaded the Vegas manual from the Sonic Foundry website.

Clicks and pops

Clicks and pops are usually created by peaks in your input caused by anything from hitting the pickup with the pick or
peaks above 0db. In the digital world anything above 0db is distortion.Eventhough this might only happen for a millisecond, it records a pop or a click.
Try recording at a lower level. This should eliminate it.
I had problems with it at first, it was just a procees of elimination. Don't drive out board effects hard and a compressor/limiter helps too.

Muchas Gracias

Hey guys - I appreciate the feedback. These message boards are so cool.

To Gidman - I went ahead and ordered the Gina sound card setup after I posted my message, so hopefully this will help with clicks and pops. When I record, I observe peak limits - plus, the clicks and pops occur even when there is NO sound going into the soundcard.
Not to mention that when I'm doing everything internally, like with Sonic Foundry ACID (which I think is the best thing since pockets on shirts), there is no problem with clicks or pops in Cool Edit Pro... only when I record from an outside source.. and again, even when I'm just recording dead silence, so I think it's just a small problem with the soundcard itself.

GREAT

Something else that I thought about...circuits
Make sure that you are on separate circuits from
everything else in you home studio.
Air conditioners,Refridgerators, florescent lighting, answering machines, washers, driers, and most any appliance,
will cause circuit interference.
New soundcard will definately help, since the "old" one pops
and clicks with silence. Must have been a cheapie.

Goodluck let me know how it goes !
