Hey all- I've been having some noise problems creeping in the audio signal from my gear. I have a Roland XP-80 and a Kurzweil ME-1 Module connected via MIDI. When I play the XP-80 keys, I hear what would appear to be "data noise" creeping into the audio signal - it's a high-pitch clicking/ticking noise. I only hear it when playing (during MIDI tx/rx). Anyone experienced this type of thing before?

It doesn't seem to happen when I connect the Kurzweil and my DX-7 together via MIDI, only with the XP/Kurzweil combination. The guy I buy gear from at my music store doesn't seem to have any ideas for me, so I'm asking here!

Any thoughts, ideas are all welcome.

Thanks,

Warren

I'm using Rapco MIDI cables (supposedly decent quality), but have jsut ordered Conquest Optima cables in hopes that this will alleviate the problem.

I had a problem like that with my keyboard but it did'nt get in to the recorded audio, it was only when I was using midi data. Is this what your saying, or is actually recording the clicks into your audio tracks.

I'm not recording, but playing live. I finally found someone who had heard of this problem. It appears to happen between Roland and Kurzweil equipement - strange. Don't have a solution except to send the Kurzweil back to the dealer.

Midi Clicking

 I have the same problem...i use 2 Roland XP-50's. One i use live with a Kurzweil Micro Piano and i get the clicking noise. Then i use one as a midi controller in my studio and i still get the clicking with all of my modules and none of them are Kurzweil. I think its a Roland thing. I'm still trying the process of elimination.

It's free to start your own thread.

Please do so in the future - you can link the other post if you feel there's some pertinent info that you'd rather not type again.

The only thing that I know of that Roland 'boards (and most other midi devices) transmit that could sound like a 'clicking' is a portion of the midi spec called 'running status'.

It's intended to tell one device that the other one is still there and may be sending some data it's way at any moment.

It should be possible to disable running status and see if that solves the problem. You'd probably do it on the 'utility' or 'midi settings' page.

If you have any kind of a midi interface for your computer, the shareware program midiox is invaluable in diagnosing
and helping to cure problems like these.
