My VF16, recently purchased on ebay, makes an audible and annoying click which syncs with the "access" light flashing on/off. Its obviously some disc problem, the hard disc sounds very grindy after recording. Does anyone know if I can get rid of this problem please!!!

While I obviously can't hear the sound you're describing, it sounds like you need a new HardDrive. You probably don't want to hear this, but the good new is that a new one won't cost a whole lot, and will probably be better than the one it first came with. The VF16's are not new machines by any means, so it's not unusual that the drive is going. I can't think of any other reason for the clicking/grinding. I assume it's not normal.

Check out the forum accessible via VF16.com There are a number of good Maxtor hard drives available. You'll need to know the version of software your using.

There shouldn't be any disturbiung noise from the hard drive, appart from a clicking sound briefly when it boots up and a very slight whirring sound which is normal for a hard disk spinning (hardly noticeable and shouldn't disturb any recordings).

Yep, take backups NOW of all your important songs, then do it again in case the first backup is dodgy, the disk is on its way out. If you backup to CDRWs you can re-use them later if you wish.
