I tried a search but there are alot of different opinions about this so it seems. What would be the best way to clean the rubber parts in the tape path? I already figured Isopropyl is used for the heads and other metal parts, but I'm not too sure on the rubber.
Would it be ok to just use some water+soap?

It's true. There is a lot of debate about this topic around.

I use Caig Laboratories, Caikleen RBR. It is the best stuff out there and is the most expensive too.

www.caig.com/

I have tried, Isopropyl alcohol, water, soapy water(dish detergent), and MG Chemicals rubber cleaner. None of them compare when it comes to getting Sticky tape shedding off the roller and reconditioning it's surface back to factory new condition and grip as Caikleen RBR.

Perhaps for everyday use, the others have their purposes but since I have discovered this product, I have never looked back.

With all these products, use caution and care to make sure that you don't get any of it on the grease that lubricated the roller as all of them will de-grease to some degree.

Depending on your roller and machine design, if at all possible, remover the pinch roller from the machine and clean it with your chemical of choice. Doing this extra tedious step will help to ensure you don't drip any off it down a capstan shaft where there might be greased areas that must remain lubricated.

Cheers! :)

don't use alcohol based cleaners for rubber parts. They will cause the rubber to dry out over time and crack.

I was steered towards a cleaner sold by precision motor works, I was told that its the best stuff on the planet. Confirm or deny? My plastic bits are covered in residue from the prior owner and need a good cleaning..

Excuse my deciphering skills but, I can't make out if you are asking a question or making a statement?

Use plain old Windex on a Q-tip for frequent maintenance and rubber cleaner occasionally to keep the rubber like new.

Gaig CaiKleen RBR is the stuff (follow Ghost's link). It's the closest chemically to the old TEAC RC-2 rubber cleaner conditioner, which I haven't been able to find anywhere lately. Rawn Re-Grip Rubber Drive Cleaner might be similar. Rawn made the rubber cleaner for TEAC.

MG Chemicals Rubber Renue is a good second choice. It's popular in printer repair circles for rubber parts, but is chemically very different.

DONT USE ANY OF THE ABOVE ON PLASTIC!

TEAC RC-1/Tascam RC-2 contains
SOLVENT NAPHTHA
HEAVY AROMATIC NAPHTHA

CaiKleen RBR contains
PETROLEUM NAPHTA
TERPENE HYDROCARBON
CHLORINATED PARAFIN

MG Rubber Renue contains
DIMETHYLBINZINE
METHYL SALICYLATE

ALL OF THIS STUFF WILL GROW HAIR ON YOUR EYEBALLS IF YOU DON'T HAVE A WINDOW OPEN.

All the above :)

1) I was told about a cleaner.

2) Has anyone used it before that would support the product.

3) I have a specific need for the plastic parts to be cleaned.

Thanks,

In Canadian it would be?

Throw me bone here GFM :)

bone throwing dept.

About cleaning the discolored plastic parts;

I think a can of paint is your only hope.:(

I too, have discolored plastic parts on my 16 track RTR from a previous studio that owned my deck and was sloppy with the dripping of cleaning chemicals on the transport.

Even the time counter display, plastic lens cover is permanently fogged from alcohol poisoning!

Cheers! :)

Your kidding... I was actually thinking of that. I was going to customize it with a anodized take-up reel and paint the plastic with a accented color....Purple

Be sure and post some pics of the before and after!

If I ever get off my ass, I might do the same to mine.

Cheers! :)
