Classic 30

I found a classic 30 for, what I think to be, a really good price. I hear they're pretty killer for live use, but can they be pulled back enough to record without pissing off neighbors? What do you all think? (I promise, I'm almost done asking pre-buying questions.)
 
I guess it depends on how close your neighbors are. If you're in an apartment or townhome....I'd say no.

I think that C30's sound better at lower volumes than most tube amps do....but if you're recording, you'll want to crank it up to get more of the mojo going.

All IMHO of coarse. :)

Yes you can record with this amp. You would probably like to have an attenuator if you like a lot of distortion. Even so, it is usually better to record tracks cleaner than you usually play them. Bang-for buck that's a teriffic amp.
 
I have heard that it is a really good amp. and like Cmunch said is goes to 12 :)
 
I gig with a friend that uses one for a lot of very low volume gigs and he often has the master down to where I can't even hear the thing with out a mic.
Of course at that level he's just getting preamp distortion but it does sound pretty good and it's a good live amp.
Much better than a Blues Jr. ;)

But of the amps you've shown us you're looking at ...... I like that Nighttrain plus cab. You'd have to mic it for loud gigs but it would hold it's own up to moderate levels and I bet it sounds great.

Classic 30 is a great amp though and personally, if I hadn't just got this Mark V, I might check out those cheap Bugera amps. They get surprisingly good reviews for the money.
 
Well I'm not actually looking at the night train yet. I'm looking at the AC4 head and cab. But I want expanability. So, yeah. I dunno. I may have to replace my acoustic which may eat up my whole budget. :(
 
If it was in the budget, I would have swapped to a Classic 30 already. Most places I play don't require me to go over "2" with my Mark III.
Classic 30's are great amps.
