Clarette expansion help

I am using a Clarette 8pre on a mac with pro tools 12. I bought a Behringer umc1820 to expand to 8 more i inputs thru adat. I followed the advice that i could find online but cant seem to get them to play nice together. Stand alone is fine and using as aggregate (i know) is fine. I’ve tried to make the umc the master and feeding the clock to the 8pre and vice verse. It could be an input issue. With the inputs set to default it shows the regular 8 channels, the spidf, & 8 adat channels, but they don’t actually feed into protools. They are getting a signal in, just not out (unless in stand alone or aggregate). Hope thus all makes sense.
I would appreciate any advice.

You may need to do something in the Pro Tools I/O settings.
 
Sent the UMC1820 packing and picked up a ada8200 instead. Should solve my issue
