Hat STYLE. Not contents.
Hi folks! I just finished up the first mix of a new song that I'm giving to the backers of my Kickstarter project. I've got a new Abomination* on this one, and this is my first song using EZdrummer. Lemme know what needs fixing! Thanks!

Citizen of the Galaxy

* The new shortscale is a 24", so that solves the problems the original had with getting the high D string to fit.

Love the song, the only nit I had is the guitar almost sound like clipping to me instead of distorted at times. I can't listen real loud because of the time, I'll check it out tomorrow at louder levels for sure. The part that starts at about 1:11 is epic, man. Really like how the back up vox sound. This one is hitting my playlist on my mp3 player/phone for sure.

Hey VHS. I kind of liked this one - not really my style, but plenty to like about it. The keyboard on the right is a bit too weird in the intro, so didn't really work for me. Agree about the distorted guitar sound sounding too bitty (if that's a good description?!). Nice mix, though - great bk vox. Nice work, man.

Thanks guys.
Alright, I'll futz with the balance of my guitars and see what I can come up with. (I run 'em really distorted, which probably isn't a great idea...)
Actually, upon another listen, that's probably the bass running through a Bassballs pedal that's getting the bitty sound.
I'm not super-exicted about how the synths on this one turned out, but randomize synths are kind of one of this band's things, and I wasn't able to come up with anything better. :(

Hopefully, I'll have time to poke at it tonight.

I like it. Sounds consistent with your usual stuff. I've come to have gotten used to the craziness of your guitar and bass sounds, but to the untrained ear I can see how people might be like wtf? But really, would a typical overdriven guitar sound work better? I'm not sure. I think the effects on the vocals are a little too much, but overall it's good.

Well, a more typical guitar sound would be more discernible, so you'd be able to tell how mediocre my instrumental skills are. That might be a bad idea! :D

What effects on the vocals are you referring to? I just have some compression, EQ, verb, and doubling.

Sounds fine to me. I like the interesting lyrics.
The music reminded me of TripleM stuff and David Bowie.

It's always fun listening to your stuff. Love the rapid fire vocal delivery. Yeah the distorted guitar sound has a lot of sizzle/fizzle, but I thought it worked well on this.

I'd nudge the keyboard on the right up in the chorus. Its level is fine in the intro/verse. But it gets covered in the chorus. Maybe pull the guitar down on the right a bit as well.

At first I thought the vocal was too low in the verses. But then I realized the level was fine, it's just hard hearing all the words.

I can understand how someone would not like the way the keyboard was working. But I like "quirk" every once in a while, so for me - I liked it.

I thought it was cool. There wasn't much I would change.

Compression and EQ is fine. I think it may be the verb + doubling. The combo make the vocals seem a little back in the mix and kind of unintelligible at times.

Respect for fast talk!

I would be so tongue-tied. I'm laughing at myself just imaging it.

Your songs sounds like an intro to an Anime cartoon! Very cool stuff.

Hey! Enough people have posted to this that I can give Greg_L rep again! I don't get to do that often!

Thanks for the feedback, folks!

So, turn down the doubled vox and possibly tweak the reverb. Turn up the synths during the chorus but possibly down during the intro. Mess with the balance of the guitars (I've got 7 tracks of that stuff excluding bass and leads; something's got to work!)

Yes except for the part about turning down the synth during the intro. Leave it where it is. My opinion of course.

I know you weren't talking to me, but it sounds like slapback reverb or something, not really noticeable to me until you sing those impossibly fast lines. Minor point though and this is a fun and quirky tune. Very sitcom themey (as usual). Love the bit-crushed gits!

Alright! Mix 2 is up in the same place.
I've turned down the doubled vox during the chorus and bridge, and muted them entirely during the verses.

Synth is up everywhere, including the intro (since I realized there's no other melodic line going then)
Guitars are re-balanced with less bit-crushed, distorted bass on the choruses and a smidge more on the verses; plus a bassier, less fizzy balance of the guitar tones.

Lemme know what you think, and thanks for the input so far!

Yep - I wasn't concerned with the level of the synth there - just the melody was a little too weird for my taste and wasn't really working for me (and I mean just for me).

Impressively fast delivery.
I like it - but then again I like most of your stuff.
You did well with EZ Bummer!
It does sound like a cnceptual cross between Sailor Moon, Bible Black and The one with the plugsuits via the Lips & the Robots (watch out Yoshimi here comes intergalactic sushimi).

Ok. They're randomized, so the melody can be pretty hit or miss. If we ever play it live, it'll be something else entirely! :D

I understood all of those references...

Hey man, another one I really like. Listened to mix 2. My only nit is the one I've made before, maybe on the baby bots song. I really, really, REALLY want to hear the story/words and anyting that gets in the way of that bugs me.
