Chugging Noise

I have a real headache of a problem. I get a chugging noise from my PC sound card. Now whether its the card, the PC power supply or the hard drives being picked up and coming in tot he desk I do not know, but I can hear the chugging sound even if the faders of my mixing desk is down!

If I open up the mic channel, I hear it big time, its still less than -20db, but its audible.

I have the ST Media Hoontec 7 sound card. It has a break out box with big serial cable that comes from the PC to box, with phonos to jacks to the mixing desk. If I unplug the serial cable, all the chugging goes and so does any out put from the PC.

Does some thing need earthing? Is it the hardrives or the PC CPU or power supply?

Or is it a setting on the sound card that needs to be adjusted some where?

Your thoughts great appreciated, as it is driving me nuts!
