Christmas drum kit

My 8 year old son got a used drum kit for Christmas from my parents
I know that I will need to get new heads in the future
But what is the best way to get him started. we've love metal and he wants to play in a with me
 
Lessons for sure, have him play along with his favorite drummers, and try to expose him to all genres of music.

Buy some earplugs for both of you.
