I was just wondering how many Christians are here on this BBS.

What do you do with your songs? Do you play concerts, or at churches? Do you record and sell CD's?

I am a "Bible Believing Christian" and I lead worship every Sunday at church. I Write songs about the Lord. I do this because I truly believe, not to make money.

I am not opposed to recording and selling some of my songs, I just don't know where to start.

Any Suggestions?

Sincerely;

Dom Franco:o

I believe in God...I guess if i was labeled i would fall under what some people might call a Christian.....

ive written a few songs one might call Christian.....i never set out to write them....as with all songs, i just go where the pen takes me......

if you are looking to sell Christian songs, you need to hook up with a publisher in that genre....it seems, like country, Nashville is where the Christian Music capital is.....

Atheïst to the bone

"If There was a God, we would have to murder him"

"God Is A meaningless question"

Religion is something people cling on to adue to their weakness: reality is hard, everything is relative and to ease the pain ppl turn to religion. Religion is the cause of lots of pain in the world: Suddenlyu a force or power other than human has the truth about all the human values, and has an absolute saying about what is 'good' and what is 'bad', but that truth seems to come out interpretated by those humans, who use it all in a different way (example over here: a leading lady of the ultra right wing belgian fascist party also calls herself christian, but the progressive gay teacher who gave me religion lessons in high school also supports the same religion, although both views are exactely the opposite).

Ppl, give yourself a break, and let us argue about the moral and human values, instead of a meaningless question as if there was another destiny or power. Because even if there was a life after death (which I think there is not) we should live our lifes as if there wasn't.

Didn't want to offend anyone, just my opinion. Maybe this belongs in the Dragon Cave?

Correct....take it to the cave......

this thread is about Christian songwriting........

and i should take this to the Cave also.....Brett, there is something inside of alot of people that keep them sane, that make them love, that keep them from robbing banks, that keep them from killing people (the "moral and human values")....some people call it a conscience and a heart....i call it God's presence....call it whatever you want......

Dom, shoot me an e-mail and I would be happy to discuss this with you.

I did licensing and distribution for ten years with an indie label, setting up full national and European distribution.

Craig, I shot you an email as well.

Chris Harwood

btw Dom, I also compose, write and record Christian music.

you can hear some @ http://www.mp3.com/theupperroom

I have also had some of the tunes in the MP3 clinic in the past.

oh...and in answer to your post....I've given away a couple hundred CD's of my latest.....with the "occasional" donation to help support my recording habit/needs.;)

Occasionally, I will play them live with my singer along with a backing CD of the tracks we recorded. Other than that..like I said....they sometimes hit the MP3 clinic!

"if you are looking to sell Christian songs, you need to hook up with a publisher in that genre....it seems, like country, Nashville is where the Christian Music capital is....."

The area where I am located, Branson MO is now giving Nashville a run for the money in the Christian music business. We do publishing, recording, artist promotion and record release especially in the gospel music field. If I can help you out, Dom, please shoot me an email.

i could use a publisher...can you hook a brutha up?.....

"i could use a publisher...can you hook a brutha up?....."

One example of my work in that genre is "Ive Got You My Son"......

I’VE GOT YOU MY SON

Some days it was so easy to believe
And thank you for all that I have
But there were days when I’d feel so lost
So alone and didn’t know where to turn

That’s when I got down on my knees
And I cried "Please God I’m falling"
Then a voice I heard within my heart
It said...

Chorus
--------
I’ve got you my son
I always have and I always will
Don’t ever believe you need go looking for me
I’m only a breath away
I’m with you every second of every day
I’ve got you my son

There’ll be days when my faith is at test
And I feel like I’m lost and alone
But I’ll know it’s not me that’s holding on
I know it’s You that’s lifted me up

And I’ll think back to that day
When I cried "Please God I’m falling"
And Your voice I heard within my soul
It said....

Repeat Chorus

Dom, I am in Nashville and see Christian artists here make a killing. If you are really into witnessing, I would suggest going to bars. If you want to make money, sticking in the church and taking "love offerings" is the way to go.

I'm here in NAshville too

I've got a CD out, but the christian music industry is a very boxed up industry. They are so tunnelled vision, that if you have a gospel message that's to a different music than what's "popular", they won't even listen to it, even though you're like me, with a ton of hooks that would blow away most of the stuff on the radio. They want sales, but they're not willing to take much risk in something that's outside their tunnel vision.
I wired a house of a big fat cat christian producer. I showed him my stuff. he was so engulfed in his 2.5 million dollar new home and his new tour vehicle designed invention, that he was not even close to reality. he was talking to me that I could invest in his patened tour vehicle design for just $70,000. Yeah right! That man is typical of the industry, buiding their treasure here on earth instead of using the money God gave him to equip teams of people to spread the word. Their focus is so distorted and it is a towering mountain filled with the praise of blind men. They don't know a good song when they hear one and anyone wants to argue with me about this, I got mp3's now and and with them, I can prove my point, that christian radio sucks and so many of those people are caught up in fad. I've been living here in Nashville for almost 6 yrs now. I've seen so many bands and fad based industry come and go, it's pathetic.
Boy, if there is an industry person in Nashville, that would forget about pictures and props and simply listen to the music, I sure would like to meet that person.

Its really too bad that "Christianity" has become a media money machine. Lot of these entertainers could really care less what the bible says as long at their pulling down the dough. Who is being glorified..the entertainer on the big stage with the lights on him/her? Golden furniture like a throne...yeah it looks alot like a desciple walking door to door with only his bible, faith and voice. Whos number 1?

Peace,
Dennis

David Hooper<"Christian artists here make a killing? Not so!!!

I've been here in nashville for 6 yrs. I've helped set up for concerts and events here and even big named acts, like P.O.D. and Project 86 on atlantic, even they say and it shows, that attendance in nashville at concerts is way low compared to other places. How can a christian artist being making a killing here in nashville??? You must be talking about only the big names with big money behind them, like DC TAlk and Michael W. Smith becasue at the grass roots level, where I've been, I've seen first hand that there's not a killing here to be made. Yeah, of all places there's not a killing here to be made. The best thing for an artist is to get a local following where he's at and definetely, nashville is not the place. There's so many artists here, it's all watered down becasue there's so many of us. David Hooper, by the way, on his web site, sells information on "how to make it" in music. And you know, when someone's selling something, there's another motive involved. Why, i've found it to even hyper convince my own mind at times. Luckily, there's someone else to convict me of the reality, that's God's Holy Spirit. Do what you want, but don't move to NAshvegas!!!!!!!

weatherbill, I'm in Nashville and see Christian artists make it all the time. They're not doing single shows like somebody such as DC Talk or Smitty though. Comparing how a major label artist with massive media exposure makes money compared to how an indie artist with only guerrilla marketing on his side makes money is like comparing apples to oranges.

People complain about attendance everywhere. I have never worked with a band who didn't think they their scene sucked. The grass is always greener, but the scene here CAN handle a Christian artist and Nashville handles plenty of them.

Christian artists here are making a killing just like secular artists are making a killing; they work their live show, sell to their mailing list, license music, earn income from publishing, etc. Income for musicians is usually made up of a lot of small streams rather than one large one.

Why you are not making the income that you are looking to make, I don't know. I will be happy to talk to you more about what you can do to increase sales, get more people to your shows, and make more money in music though. As you have already figured out, www.kathoderaymusic.com is my site.

Yes, I work with independent bands on promotion and marketing and I do charge for it. You get paid for your work, don't you?
