choosing recording and mixing software

ok i have heard a lot about cakewalk and cubase on this forum and i was about to go out and get cakewalk pro suite but i went to a digidesign show yesturday and was amazed by protools. i'm thinking about getting the did001 because 10,000 for the real thing is out of my universe right now, ut before i do, i still haven't seen a demo of cakewalk or cubase and any other non digi product. can these other products touch digi001 or is there something else i should look into. its coming out for windows 98 in late march early april.

Pashdog- check out steinberg.net- I think they still have their demos for Cubase available for download. Same think for cakewalk, though I don't know their address (probably cakewalk.com or something obvious). Good luck!
