Hey, could you check my setup for my guitar and vocal recordings on the pc. I will be editing them so digital 24bit recrding is best or me i think! Anyway here's my tight budget decision:

Audiophile 2496
Audiobuddy
Shure SM57 (mic)

This should cator my needs for my:
guitar + j-station (s/pdif in)
My midi needs for updating the j-station's effects.
My vocals need, a good sound running into my card.

The best bit is i can steadily upgrade for other connections etc

It will give me everything i need now. so i can start recording straight away.

Any on you got a setup similar? could ya tell me the performance?

thanks a bunch!

Looks good aL.

Do you have any editing software? Like N-Track, Sonar, Sound Forge?
Once you get the music to your computer, you'll need some kind of software to edit, mix, etc with.

What is the stats on your computer? Disk space, CPU, etc.

Most of what you have, I've never used, but I've read about it.
Good stuff.

If the SM 57 mic is for your vocals, I would spend the extra $20 and get an SM 58. The 58 has a fatter bottom and a presence peak that are engineered into the mic specifically for vocals. The 57 is designed to have a flat response; it is engineered more for instrument micing. Shure also makes an SM 48 (which I think is about $10 less than a 57), it is a budget version of the SM 58. I have an SM 48 that I have used for years for live vocal use, it sounds as good as a 58, the only difference I can tell is that it has a little less output, you have to turn the gain up a little.

Cheers guy's
I'll look into the SM58, i aint the singer so i am useless when it comes to mic's, but thanks :D

My PC stats are updated weakly, lol, although at the mo. it's down to its basics as i found a few faults in the recent chip and mobo i ordered (1.6 amd athlon) so now its down to a crummy 500 K6-2, but that'll be sorted within a few weeks, i hope so anyway. As for my memory, well its so damn cheap i pick up more with the change i get from bigger buys eg mobo + chip, hehe.

cheers though guy's when i've recording a few demo's i'll let ya know :D

P.S. software i have Cakewalk and Cubase and whatever comes with my audiophile :D

regards

Ive got a similar setup....

Audiophile
Delta DMP2 preamp (Audio Buddys big brother)
J-Station
Shure sm57
Marshall MXLv67

if you want really nice vocals, skip the sm57 and go with a cheap LD condenser......
