I will be producing RAP, R&B, & a lil Gospel, mostly hard hitting 808 down south music!
What do you guys think of this setup?
I build PC's so I will go with this route of recording instead of a standalone:
For recording,
PC:1.2 gig Athlon cpu,Asus Motherboard, 512 MB of RAM,(2) 40 GB Hardrives one for music and one for game play, Windows 2K for stability or maybe 98 SE, 10X DVD ROM, 16X10X40X CD Burner, GE Force II Graphic card with 32 MB RAM, Soundblaster Platinum 5.1

Software:Digidesign 001 for small projects and Emagic Logic Silver for larger projects, but I will start off with Digi 001 first then maybe purchase Logic when I take on projects needing over 24 tracks.

Hardware:Korg Triton, MPC 2000XL, Korg MS2000R, EMU Proteus w/ Pure Phatt Chip, X Lead Chip, Techno Chip, Hafler M5 Monitor Package, MXL Condenser MICS, Lexicon MPX 100 Processor

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.....(especially money saving, Getting the best results for the least amount of $)

Just my 2 cents

Hey Mastermindzz,

If it was me, It appears you have the Computer part
taken care of, although I wouldnt worry about a soundblaster
sound card, a modem ( I dont think you mentioned one) the
system hard drive but no games for me :) Build another one for games and such.

With all the external synths you dont need the sound blaster
for anything. You will need a Midi interface to tie all
of your synths to the computer. These dont cost much.
Check out Motu (rock solid) or even the Midiman stuff.

Im sorry but I can't recommend the digi 001 to anybody.
This is a dead end system and you are severely limited
with a lite edition of Pro Tools. If you have to have Pro
Tools go straight to the TDM. For the same amount of money
there are better software and hardware setups than the Digi
001 on the PC platform. Thats just my opinion.

I dont see any Mic preamps listed. This is where you need to
put some focus. You are gonna be tracking alot of vocals,
you need to have at least 1 Tube pre in your arsenal and a
few others to add some versatility. Dont count out the dynamic
mics like the Shure SM58 and the Audix OM2..excellent for backgrounds..this will kinda separate the Lead Vocal from the
rest...:) Oh yeah when you get to tracking vocals..you will
find it nice to have more than 24 Track capability...I mean
we are talking possibly triple and quadruple tracking 3, 4,
and 5 part harmonies or just a whole lot of unison :)

By the way, Do you know how to use all that gear you have?
I mean the synths and sequenceres? If not, you have alot to
learn quick. But if so then thats great you should have a smooth
transistion over to PC sequencing.

Good luck and I hope this helps!
