hey guys, my band played this big gig and wanted to hand out cds, so we rushed a demo cd in two days. I didnt have too much time to mix it, but it seemed like there was not too much more i could have done to make it better. I didnt have time time to master it either, but it didnt come out too bad. Tell me what you think, and more importantly, what I can do to help my recordings in the future. My guitar player is supposed to get a mesa duel rect soon, which should help the recordings, and my other guitarist is getting his 5150 back from the shop as well. This was done in my basement with the equipment listed in my signature. I tried to help the guitar tone as much as I could, but i couldnt get a good sound to work with from the getgo. Tell me what you think. Also, I always wanted to know how people got the difference between demo quality and professional/commercial quality. Megadeth usually puts both versions of their songs on their cds. Anyone know why there is sucha big quality difference?

I listened to shell shock and from what i heard, the guitar had way too much low end. I know for the metal sound you need that thinck low end but it needs to be tightened up a lot. one way to do this would be to roll off the frequencies below 150 htz. start with a slight decrease there and gradually pull out more the lower in the spectrum you go. this will allow for more of the kick to come through. also , the snare didn't really have much crack and the drums are covered up completely by the other instruments. turn the guitars down a bit, make sure you get a decent dynamic mic right up on the snare and seperate the eq a lot more and it will sound a lot better. but if you want to sound heavy, the drums have to kick your ass when you hear them and you didn't get that sounjd in tracking so... hope this helps some.
