we don't need rest!!
Looking for the cheapest route for recording 8 channels at once for a remote location. No ADATs please as suggestions. Something like a laptop with decent soundcard hookup would be the preference, but am open to the current portable devices if the mic inputs are half decent and able to record a min of 8 channels symultaneous. The main purpose will be to record drums in some nice acoustical spaces, but also to record some group get togethers in some "out of the way" places. If I had to go 4 channels, I might consider if the $$ savings was substantial, but 8 is the preference. The laptop is preferred for portability too. Would like to keep equipment hauling to the minimum AND not having to depend on AC inputs at some places would be really nice too.
Think recording in the woods, so to speak.
What's out there nowadays for a portable, remote setup?
