Okay, basicaly at the moment I have a pretty decent computer (athlon 2600+ on an nf7-s with 1 gig of ddr 400) running cubase, and some tannoy reveal monitors. I've also been using a hoontech dsp24 value for monitoring, but have found that for recording it can become quite unstable, and has a habbit of changing sample rates randomly.

anyway, what I'd like to know is what you people think is the cheapest way to get 8 channels of decent reliable analog ins, preferably with preamps.

So far the following options have looked the best..

the emu 1820m + 6 channels out outboard pres (probably audio buddys)

a cheap adat card + the behringer ada8000

the presonous firepod (though I have been having trouble tracking these down in australia)

what do you think is the best way for me to go?... bearing in mind that all of these are already pushing my budget

Out of that list I'd go for the Firepod.

Also consider the Deltat 1010LT, 8 inputs for $220

Highly Rec 1010lt

I Have A 1010lt And A Yamaha Mg16/4 Mixer
Paid 220.00 For The Card Which Works Great And 250.00 For The Mixer Which Also Works Great... Less Than 500.00 For A Complete
Setup That Sounds Awesome .

Also,

The M-Audio Octane (8 in w/pres) via ADAT to Emu 1212m.

is the Sonorus STUDI/O a reliable adat card?... I may be able to pick one up for about 150 australia, so about $75 us, are there any other good adat cards for that price that also support optical spidif?... the idea of having two adat ins appeals to me as it would make expansion much easier.

also, how much difference is there between the ada8000 and the octane?, are there any products inbetween the two that are worth a look?

and would I be better to have an ada8000 + a nice stereo or mono channel strip, or just to get an octane in you guys's opinions?
