Cheap mics and mic bleed can sound pretty good.

Here's my first attempt at recording my drums in the garage. I have a mic on every tom, snare, hats, kick & 2 overheads. I was quite pleased with the results - actually I was blown away! My greatest recording fear was to take on the task of recording acoustic drums. I thought I might need to use a module and triggers to get a decent sound - but I was worried for nothing. Let me know what you think of the sound I got and then I'll tell you about the mics. I used a Fostex D-90 recorder and Alesis Studio 32 board - then dumped to computer and mixed in Logic Audio. I'm new to the forum and don't know how to post a link yet but here it is to copy & paste.



It's about a 1.5mb file.

Sounds really good! I am really impressed with not only the sound but your playing as well. Care to give a rundown of your set up? Did you compress anything? Where were your overheads placed?
I'd love to try the same thing. I've got some samples of drums I'd love to post but I don't have a site to post from.
