I'm looking for a cheap (<100$) dynamic to mic my guitar cab. Sound I'm after is a clear, punchy, Albini-esque sound. Any suggestions besides the SM57?
I am looking at an Electro Voice CO4 right now, which seems interesting.

My guess is that you probably won't get an Albini-esque sound using a cheap dynamic. However, some that you may want to try out are the Sennheiser e609 Silver, EV 635A, and some Beyers off eBay if you can find them for that price. Han (a poster on this board) mentioned that he's seen Sennheiser MD421s on eBay for $100 to $150, but good luck with that.

The 635a seems quite interesting, and cheap. I'm gonna look up some more information on this one.
A Beyer would be cool, especially a ribbon, but I haven't been able to find these at a price within my range. Same for the 421.
Anyway, thanks for the suggestions.

I'n not going to translate that! :D

op een engelstalig forum hoor je engels te praten jongens!!!

kwestie van de rest niet paranoia te maken :)

Mmmmmm.........? Paranoia worden is wel eens goed voor een paar van die gasten.:D

Sorry guys! I offered Eddie to come to my place in order to try a number of mics, so he can make the right choice.

It wasn't polite of me to do that in Dutch.

Hope we still can be friends. :D

AKG D770, Sennheiser e835, and if you can find an old one on ebay, D320 rocks.-Richie

Thanks for the offer! I'll be sure to come by some day. I'd love to see your studio.
Regarding the 421.. I tried marktplaats, there's none on there right now :(

I noticed that, but the 421 is offered many times at marktplaats, so keep looking. I have six of them which you can try at my place.
I have two MD441's, M88, M69 M201, MD416, SM57 and a lot more.

Dutch fellows,
I also think that when we post in public on this site, we should keep it in english as much as possible.
Back to the subject: Be patient. MD421s show up very regularly on marktplaats.nl. I picked up an MD421N (including cables) earlier this month for €105,-. Not like new but it works like it should.

I got one!
A MD421 II for 150€.
What kind of amps does it like the most? As said above I'm going for that 'indie' type sound, think Sonic Youth ( mid-late 90's material), Blonde Redhead, Shellac, etc.
I have an old Simms-Watts tube amp, clean as hell, with a Fender Jazzmaster and Rat pedal. Hope they will like each other.

Question:
Are the new ones the only ones with an XLR connector?
And are they the only ones that are black of colour?
