I've got $550 (canadian dollars) to spend on a drum kit. I was planning on using that cash for a keyboard, but after cleaning out my studio I realised all I have is a hi-hat stand, kick pedal, and a snare stand, the rest is garbage.

So do you think I could get a decent kit for $550? I could save a bit of cash not having to buy a hi-hat stand kick pedal or snare stand, but that cant be much.

Try Pacifics

Hi,

You might look into a bare bones kit by Pacific drums. They are a subsidary of DW and although I do not own any, I've heard the quality is very good for the price.

whats 550 canadian to american?
like lets say its 400...
not enough for a decent kit... ur gonna need cymbals and hardware too, and a drum throne...
u could go with the pdp 4 piece shell kit... musiciansfriend has them for like 399 US right now...
still dude i say u save up some cash... theres kits that come with cymbals, but not good ones...
people gotta understand drums cost a ton for decent sounds

You should really check out HB drums, right in your price range and seemingly above average kit

I dont think those would be a good idea.

Why is that? I don't have a set yet, but was thinking of getting some. Have you played or owned a set from HB? Please let me know.

meh HB just isnt a hugely well known brand... its just usually best to go with something u know will be good...
Pearl, mapex, ludwig, tama, sonor, (many others)
just my opinion but stick with big names...

SAVE!!!like at least 800 american, if you buy a crap set you will be able to play but if its crap so you will want a better one and have to start all over saving just buy a good one

Somtimes taking a chance on a "cheapo" brand can pay off big. For example I bought some of those Pulse pro series boom cymbal stands and they fucking rock I got like 10 of them, and two of the pro series hi hat stands, plus two of their pro series double bass pedals, all of which are built very well, and I have had this gear for 1 1/2 years now, and still no problems.

Now the drums from Pulse, I don't know, but the HB drums are all birch and come with a good warranty, and cost half as much as the big names!

Don't pay for brand name pay for quality, but I don't have any HB's yet so I can't speak from expirence.

I'd look in all the papers and bulletin boards and online auctions for a used kit. For $500 bucks you could probably find something with cymbals thats not total crap.
I got almost all my drum stuff (throne, cymbals and shells) off of ebay for really good prices.
Good luck.

Do you sell HB drums?

Those things are pieces of SHIT! They aren't worth throwing on the trash heap to burn in the dead of winter.

I have seen them in person.

In a word: Junk.

They don't even have enough lugs on the drums to properly tune them.
Their 16" floor tom has 12 lugs on it.
That is 4 less than even the cheapest Pearl , Tama, Yamaha, or whatever name brand. Do you know why those brands have 4 more lugs on them? Because you can't correctly tune a 16" drum that has only 12 lugs on it - the lugs are spread out too far and there are wrinkles in the head between them.

I love how they have "HB Artists"..... as if playing their crap drumline is some honor.

They should have me - spraying lighter fluid on their crappy drums and lighting them.

I Love their list of "associates."

Partial list of current & past clients and associates include: Kevin Ratermann, Lee Koenig, Dave Weckl, Tris Imboden, Whitesnake, Megadeth, Mike Portnoy - Dream Theatre, Matt Sorum-Guns and Roses, Slaughter, Peter Erskine, Dick Dale, Jerry Cantrell-Mike Inez-Alice in Chains, Chad Smith-Chile Peppers, Eric Singer of Kiss, Carmine and Vinnie Appice, Greg Bissonette, Percussionists for Santana and many more....

Past clients for what? Nowhere does it say they are a list of ENDORSERS, nor does it say that those people purchased these sets. They could have mailed each one of the above a snare, and claimed that these people are their "associates".

Just remember - in the world of drums, you get exactly what you pay for....and don't waste your time or money on crap like this.

I think this is the best bet as well.
