I am a novice at recording but have done a few things, like taping my daughter at a temple performance (Shure/AKG mikes, mono Peavey mixer, my personal portable Sony DAT) and then transferred the songs via Musicmate to my computer Phillips soundcard, then recorded on CD for family. I own a small Mac 1200 mixer which I take along when I am doing the taping at the temple. I dont leave the DAT or my mixer there- they might walk!
The temple would like to buy a cheap digital recordier for live music performances since our cassette is poor quality and dying anyway...
What do you recommend that is cheap but will work for live recording?
Two thoughts- a CD recorder (such as Phillips fed by the mixer). or a computer based recorder. I am a total novice in computer based recording. We could get an old computer (Pentium 233) donated for dedicated service
