Better Than You
I'm using a cheap Casio Keyboard which is no use to me other than a midi Key. Can anyone suggest a decent midi sound mod (new or used) for under $200?

With MIDI hardware falling quickly out of fashion there should be lots of options on Ebay --- some that just last year would have been out of your price range.

Here's a nice one:

Here's one for $20.00 - with 4 days to go...

And here's one of those that would've been out of your price range:

Hey ssscientist,I know it was a long cruise to Io(and back) but MIDI hardware is perfectly alive and well(not to mention, more expensive than it has a right to be)but it is far from "falling quickly out of fashion".

With all the "bitches" I hear about Computer-based DAWS,it makes me feel glad that I didn't hop on that particular bandwagon...IYKWIM

Toker, spend just a little more time at your lemonade stand and pick up one of these:

No,it's not a mod but it will only cost you $495(EXR-3 from Sweetwater)

Added bonus(among other bonuses) it has an on board 16 track sequencer.

Very

Wha?

And I don't think anyone but a Danish newbie would seriously question that there has been a BIG drop in the price of used midi hardware in the last two years.

Yuk.

Oh sorry. I was fooled by your low number of posts and your join date into thinking you were a newbie, and by the .dk web address into thinking you were Danish.

You're starting off on the wrong foot, my man...

Oh so an American can't post a link to a Danish website without being called Danish?
Man that *is* intelligence.

btw I've got a left foot and a right foot, but I can't seem to recall a "wrong" foot...

oh well

Even though Bat63 thinks the EXR series is the right choice for every situation, perhaps it would be helpful to find out what kinds of music you are making and what kinds of sounds you are looking for? Do you need acoustic or orchestral sounds or are you making beats like everyone else on the planet? There are lots of used modules that would fit into your price range. A lot depends on what you are trying to accomplish.

Since I'm using Roland V-sessions, my drum sounds are for the most part taken care of. A few good drums sounds outside of that wouldn't hurt, but not important. Mostly I'm looking for good Piano, and string sounds.

Well, in that price range, you could probably pick up an Alesis NanoPiano or a Roland JV1010 or maybe a JV1080 if you get lucky. E-Mu has their Proteus modules, but I'm not a big fan of the piano sounds. Yamaha has the TG series, I haven't ever used one so I can't talk about sounds on those. There might be some others in your price range.

I hope that helps a little.

No ,not the right choice for EVERY situation, but since it's obvious that toker isn't swimming in money,it is a valid option and one that should be considered.

Have you listened to that demo yet toker? Check it out if you can.

I know this doesn't do too much in helping to make a choice, but here it is anyways:

FYI..

I admit my enthusiasim gets the best of me from time to time, but, truth to tell, this is the first keyboard in many a moon that has truly gotten to me.

If you want though I can start dropping other names, just for variety sake, just so you won't have to read the same old thing over and over and *over*....

Only thing is,I value my integrity too much to start tossing out *lies*...

Here's a excellent deal on a software sound module. Sonic synth 1, omnisynth 1 and sampletank 2 light edition only $109 plus a free SR sampletank sound library for free this is a steal. The sound quality is good also. Sampletank 2 le has 16 midi outs and 8 audio outs. This offer ends on 8/15/04.

The link for this offer is below:

Here's a link to listen to some of the sonic synth 1 sounds:

Here’s a link with reviews of the sonic synth 1 the pic on the site shows sonic synth 2; but it’s not out yet . http://www.kvr-vst.com/get/116.html

P.S.
You can get $5 in epointz by entering a user name for the referral if you purchase. My user name is aslaton just make sure you put in in the “user name” part and not the first or last name part, so enter that when you place your order. I will get $5 too thanks!

GOD Bless

Yea, I've tried the software route. Tried Sample Tank 2 free, but damn if I can figure it out. I'm far from computer, or recording illiterate, but I am kinda new to this midi thing. I'm trying to use Sample Tank with N-track, and a Delta 1010, and damn if I can figure out anything other than how to open Sample Tank. Can't figure out how to get one sound out of it. Just seems like the hardware way might be a bit easier, and less CPU intensive, although a bit more expensive.
