I need a bass, I can only spend about $150-$200 on one. can anyone recommend a descent playing and sounding no name or used Bass? My last bass was a no name that buzzed like crazy, so I pulled out the frets and it sounded great! Its been almost 10 years since I bought my last bass, and all the good music stores that I can get to closed down, I'm relying on online purchases. Has anyone tried the cheapy Kramers?

Fender Squires are OK I guess. At least it would be playable if you're looking for that classic "P" bass sound.

Used Yamaha BB or RBX series I found an RBX 550 for $175 and like it a lot , many different but usable sounds , good playability , clean electronics and good intonation .

I've always felt that for the money, Ibanez makes some great guitars and basses. I've got an Ibanez bass that probably only cost about $250, and it sounds and plays great. It also has a wide range of tonal possibilities with the electronics.

Good luck!

When I was on holiday in the States last year I tried out some Ibanez basses in pawn shops that were (mostly) $200 or less... they played pretty well (coulda done with a bit of tweaking here and there but thats to be expected). They looked kinda nice too. Only reason I didn't buy one is that I wouldn't have managed to stash it in my luggage!

Thanks for the input

I've ruled out cheap Ibanez's because I have a cheap guitar from them that I hate. Squire I know I don't like the feel of the necks on The guitars, so I won't chance that. Yamaha and peavy, I'll keep those in mind.

Burak, I checked out your song I Love Easy Girls, pretty good. What's your best cut for hearing your bass?

I bought a brand new natural finish Yamaha RBX260 fretless for $199 at Mars a year ago and I really like it,both neck wise and tone wise. They also had the fretted version at the same price, but I didn't need one. This was their everyday, non sale price then, dunno if it's higher now.Cheers!

Yes, Yamaha RBX 260 is a really good bass. Yamaha is very good about frets and any other quality. This bass doesn't have many sounds in it, but whaddaya want from a P-bass imitation? Mine eventually benefited from a bone nut and Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder pickup - it really sounds good now.
