So I'm extremely new to recording and am working on a budget, with the intent of expanding.

I recorded this song with the bare minimum for a short film that my college was producing, and taught myself how to use all the equipment they had available. (Took some great Groove3 tutorials as well) However, even though I definitely think that owning better equipment improves the quality of your recordings, I believe that a good mixer/producer should be able get a decent sound out of basic equipment....and that's what I'm striving towards.

For this original recording I used:

Pro Tools 9
Mbox Pro
SM 58 for vocals
A line in Taylor acoustic guitar with Guitar Rig 4 for effects
M Audio Oxygen 49 Midi controller for strings, bass and piano sounds
Addictive Drums for drums.

I know this recording is far from perfect but I would just appreciate a few pointers to get a good idea on where I need to work on and improve.
Thanks
