They had quite a nice room in that store for the condensor mics. Completly enclosed, almost sound-proof, and very dead. Perfect! I was there with a friend and drug him in there to sing into the mics two. Here's my impressions...

My favorites on my voice:
1. Alesis AM11- absolutely wonderfull with my voice

2. AT 3525- I really dig this mic, it's not all that sensitive so you can really utilize the proximity effect.

3. Marshall V67- I was very surprised by this one. at $199, you can't go wrong.

4. Neuman U87- I liked it... but for over $1000 I wouldn't buy it just for me

honorable mention: AKG C2000. pretty nice, had a nice sense of space, was just a bit grainy on the higher mids.

dissapointments: the AT 4033, 4047, and 4050. didn't like either of them when I was there... the Marsahall v57 was the worst in the bunch, not even worth $99.

My favorites on Vern's voice.
1. Marshall v67- perfect for his eddie vedder meets Adam Duritz on the pavement gravel..

2. Neuman U87- I'd pick this on his voice over the Marsahall except for the $1000 price difference!!!

3. AT 3525- again I liked this mic...

Vern's favorite... the Marshal v67... couldn't get him off the thing... you really need apop filter for it though, didn't handle plosives well at all.

Verdict: I'm getting and pair of AT3525's, I'll use them for overheads, acoustic guitar... everything. They seem kind of mellow which is good to me. I went in wanting to check those out, which I guess carries some kind of bias, but I was very pleased that I liked them on my voice too. The AM11 knocked my socks off! so nice and smooth with a bit of nice glassyness on my quirky tenor. Didn't work so well for vern's gravelly baritone. I'll keep this one in mind... maybe the price will go way down...

I was very impressed with the setup there at that store, I've never been able to test mics in store without dealing with background noise. YOu could get in that booth and scream your head off and not really disturb anyone... I wish every store had something like that...
