As I don't really have a studio space, I've been spending my energies trying to learn about tracking and mixing live peformances. I'm beginning to go through a bunch of the live tracks I've been hoarding for a while. This one is from Montpelier's Phoenix Fest, where we had a full day's worth of fine musicians donating their stuff to benefit employees for four local businesses who were burned out by an electrical fire. One of them was the local guitar guru; you can imagine that the promoters had no lack for musical talent on the day of the festival. The performances ran nonstop all day, alternating sets on two stages; I ran sound for one of them and caught some nice tracks off the mixing board. So here's the first of the Phoenix Fest tracks.

Lemme know what you think; how would you approach a live concert like this?

Great performance.

All I can hear of the drums is the high end, cymbals, etc. Can't hear any snare or kick, which I think would really help tie the bottom end together. Bass is great.
