Hi
Was wondering how to use the inserts channels properly. I want to record vocals with a compressor. I know how to hook the compressor up with one end in the insert channel and the Y end in the compressor, but how will I be able to monitor the vocal signal coming in to check my compressor settings? Doesn't the insert break the signal? Do I have patch it anywhere on the mixer? I know it's only a simple thing? But when I have tried to do the above I can't seem to get a signal
Many thanks
Lee

An insert is a Send/Receive loop...so if you hook it up correctly, the signal leaves the mixer...goes into the comp...comes out of the comp...and goes back into the mixer to complete the loop, and out your mixer channel.

So not sure what you are asking about hearing the comp...?
You will hear the signal as it comes from the comp.
If the comp has a bypass button...you use that to A/B with or without comp.

Thanks will check out my connections and try again, appreciate your comments

You can also run the mic right into the compressor and then into the board... I think the sends are mostly used when you want to share an effect with multiple channels -

I don't really use them I do all my compression and effects in my DAW so probably not much help :P
