CEP Shutting Down during Mixing

Hey all.
I keep getting shut down when I am mixing on CEP. Here is the Scenario. I've got 24 tracks, although not all are being used in some parts of the song. I've got delay FX on the Snare and Kik drums, and wanting to add slight reverb to the toms. I manage to get a decent setting and when I go to review and play the selection, it spits and sputters for a few seconds and then I get the nice little "Cool Edit Pro has encountered a problem and needs to close" window and it wants me to report the error to Microsoft.
I don't know if this is the actual error but I found this:

AppName: coolpro2.exe AppVer: 2.0.2095.0 ModName: coolpro2.exe
ModVer: 2.0.2095.0 Offset: 00110475

What could be the problem here?? Not enough RAM? Nothing else but CEP is running when I am encountering this error. Plus I have a gig of RAM, which should be plenty. I shut down all firewalls and anti-virus software so that only CEP is on the toolbar.
Maybe I should locate another version of CEP. I am using vers. 2.0

Any suggestions???

Is this CEP or Adobe Auditon 2.0?

Also, how fast is your CPU? And what version of Windows are you using?

And what effects are you using? The ones built in to Audition or other plugins you've downloaded?

Hi Danny...good questions that need to be answered before we can help, hey?!!!
I've got a feeling he's using CEP 2.0 or 2.1?
I'd suggest he shuts down all the 'on-the-fly-fx' and go from there.
Ask him if he's got the 'registered' version' also..

superspit....now via proxy!! :)

Hi Guys!
Thanks for the replies. I'm running Win XP Pro. And I have CEP V. 2.0. My CPU is AMD Sempron 2600+, 1.83 Ghz. Hopefully this is enough. I've never had this problem before. Plus, my copy is "Registered to Peter Quistgard", so its not entirely legal! Its been working great for years.
The effect I am using is the "full reverb" setting, on "Small Room, The ones built in to CEP.
Its too late tonight (as I'm tired) but I'll try removing all reverb effects and go from there.

Hope I gave you the right answers :-) Looking forward to any other suggestions. Thank you guys!

WHAT!!! you're going to sleep!!?? but..but...but...the sun is still high in the sky!!......er...hm....over here anyways!!
I reckon ye old Sempron will struggle with anything but the simplest FX on the most minimal of trax!!
I'd like to know how you get on with turning FX off in multitrack, I reckon she'll be sweeeeeeet!!!
Regards, Superspit.

By the way, thanx for being honest with version, and not getting all 'uppety' for that questions posed.....appreciate that!! :) .

Me and Danny Guitar will prolly help u thru on this one!! ..should u need us.
The rest of the guys here are helpful too!!! ;)

There are dozens of possibilities why this error could occur. Some might include a glitch in the way Windows was installed, a minor incompatibility with your CEP software, a minor incompatibility with your hardware or your hardware driver, an overheating processor or memory chip, the list goes on. The part about reporting it to Microsoft is a standard message following all Windows errors.

If this program has already been working well for years, (and nothing much has changed recently,) then I would pursue it as a developing temperature problem. It is probable that when you mix down 24 tracks with effects, you put the processor and memory under enough workload to cause overheating. This becomes worse over time as a result of accumulating dust inside your computer.

You see, dust tends to cling to small electronics parts due to heat and static. (...parts that are supposed to be cooled by moving air.) As this dust builds up, it starts to behave like a thermal blanket which keeps the heat in instead of letting it discharge.

I occasionally, (once every few months,) open up my computer case and blow the dust away from small parts using compressed air. It tends to build up more so between the cooling fins which usually reside beneath the small fans.

I am not sure this is your answer but, it is worth a try.

P.S. Many folks around here frown heavily on software pirates. You'll be lucky if they don't nail your ass for it. Do you shoplift too? Be a real man and go buy the sofware.

What reverb effects are you using in real time? How many?
What about other effects?
Does it happen while playing back complete multisection?
Have you tried to mute tracks, one by one and find out if problem is nonly in one particular track?
New questions are coming soon…
Your PC is strong enough for this , by the way.

a very 'bi-polar' response!!! LOL!!!! :D (I like the last paragraph, wot a hoot!!)
Still, good suggestions to check for!!!

I wonder exactly 'how many years' his Sempron hasn't given him trouble??????...and if his track count has naturally increased over time too, placing more stress on CPU, causing it to overload??..... Causing me to help someone who may not have a legal copy....generally causing people to tangent their thoughts from being technical to judge and jury......
Whatever......Hope the info the good people have placed here helps you.
Goodbye!

So you steal a program and then want support for when it doesn't work?

So if I go out and steal a TV, and after awhile it starts to crap out on me, should I be able to get technical support?

Don't think so.
