LOGIC ABUSER
Hav'nt verified this yet, but in anticipation for my logic 4.8 to 5.0 upgrade I have resorted to WinXP for optimization needs. I use cool edit pro and just need to know if it is compatible with XP?
Are there any issues?

Thanks

It crashes a lot on me. I get that nice little message that says, "sorry, windows is retarded and must close the program. would you like to send an error report?"

CEP's crash recovery thingy makes it no problem though, just an annoyance. I can go back in immediately and resume my session.

On the other hand, others have reported that CEP runs well with XP.

A thought crossed what I call my mind - there are two versions of XP, right? Office, and pro, I think. Does it matter which version you're running?

I have problems with pro. the other version is "home edition"

Sounds great guys. Im using XP Pro.........one less thing to worry about.
Thanks

Well, I'm having a problem with it...

I have Cool Edit 2000 running in Windows XP, home edition on my laptop. I have two 24-bit cards that are connected to it, a USB audio device (Aardvark DirectMix USB3) and a PCMCIA card (Digigram VXPocket v2). I can get all of my other audio software (N-Track, Sonar, etc.) to record in 24-bit. CE, however, will only record in 16-bit. On BOTH devices.

I was able to use CE to record in 24 bit on 98SE and 2000. Not so here. What am I doing wrong? Is this a limitation in the software that's going to force me to upgrade to CEP? Or at least another version of CE2K?

What's the deal here?

Thanks.

CEP_v1.2a & XP_Pro ... So, So...

I just got a chance to run my new PC through the paces, tonight (or last night). I had a couple of timing issues where the system seemed to just slow down. And, I had one premature application closure with CEP. This was all in a 14 hour session where I rebooted twice, just to be safe. And, the one premature shutdown of CEP didn't result in any data loss, as it restored when I relaunched CEP.

I only run CEP and Roxio EZCD 5.0 on this system... this is all it does. But, there are other factors that might be contributing that are not softwar related. I am using an ASUS "P4S333" motherboard (SiS645D chipset) and DDR333/PC2700 RAM. And, I am runn a 1.9GHz CPU, which is close to the top end of this board. There might be a physical timing issue.

Overall, I enjoyed the experience better than WinME!

There might be some driver incompatibility r.e. your external soundcard (if any) and cool edit in xp. See about updating some drivers, and see if that doesn't resolve the shut down issue.

Also, look into the "services" running in the back ground. Try shutting ones down that are not necessary to running in xp.

Oh, and I resolved the 24-bit issue in xp. I downloaded the following, installed it, and now all is well:

Thanks, Shaky Tee...

I have the latest M-Audio driver for the Delta-1010s. But, I forgot to go through the Services. I first loaded XP on a P-III board, which ran great. Then, I decided to upgrade to a P4. So, I reinstalled everything from scratch. I didn't go through the Services.

In the past, cheap memory has caused such issues for me. But, DDR333 memory is not mainstream, yet. I was thinking I might have to wait a few months for Crucial (or some other big name) to come up with a lifetime version.

Thanks, again. I'll thin out my background services, tonight.

:-)

Way kewl!

Just be careful which ones you shut down. I would say that if it says "system" next to it, leave it alone! If it's a real.exe or a winampa.exe service, then kill it.
