CEP 2.1 .ses file compatibility in AA3

Would my .ses files that I'm using in Cool Edit Pro 2.1 be usable if I upgraded to Adobe Audition 3.0?

As far as I know: Yes but Audition 3 will modify the file so you need to save it under a different name to keep the original intact.
 
What he said. I save all my old session files as SessionNameAU whken I have to go back and edit or open something from the archives.
 
Thanks. After the file is modified, it will no longer open properly in CEP 2.1? I ask because a friend and I are working cooperatively from across the country and have been both using CEP 2.1. I'm changing to AA3 because I recently picked up some gear that requires ASIO, and my understanding is that you need Audition 3 to speak that language. I guess I could try to convince him to change software at the same time.

Oh, but over on audiomaster forum there is member who offers an AA translater that might help . . . now any Fx not available in early versions will not translate backwards, etc. but basic functions might be there

Thanks for that Oretez - AAtranslator will read all versions of SES files but it will currently only write AA1.5 ses files and AA3 xml files. We chose the xml for obvious AA3 compatability and the AA1.5 ses file as being ProConvert compatible and the format which could be read by the most AA users. The CEP2.1 format is not that different but it would still take some effort to provide that functionality. To be frank we have higher priority formats we are working on just at the moment but let me know if I can help. We are continually adding functionality and formats.

BTW FX, EQ, midi etc do not get converted so if you want download and try the demo.

Edit: I have just been contacted by a user of AATranslator saying that they are able to open their AA1.5 session in CEP2.1 but noted that the track pan details from AA3 weren't coming across - working on that now.
