Speaking of speakers.......

Anyone done it, or heard it? Usually I associate Celestion Blues with open-backed combos and I don't think I've (knowingly) heard any in a closed-back cab.

instead of the blues, i went with a Celestion Heritage G12H-55.

awesome, in a closed back.

I've got 2 original G12H-30 55hz in my Marshall cab and they are killer. How do the Heritage versions compare to the originals?

A buddy of mine has a Celestion Blue in an older 1 X12 closed back Marshall cabinet, he runs Reeves 18 watt head into it and it sounds SICK, I wish I had it. Those speakers are just the best sounding guitar speaker I have ever heard in a open back or closed back cabinet.

My Vox AC30CC is loaded with two Blues and they are just the most musical speakers I've ever heard in a combo amp.

After I posted this thread I realized that I do have a home-built 2X12 closed-back cab, and I think I'll load 'em up and see how they sound. :)

you know, i have some early 80's Greenbacks, so that's the closest i can come to comparison.

if you read that pdf link i left above, i think it tells a pretty good story (from celestions' point of marketing view) about how well it's done.

i can tell you this..
even before i broke it in, this speaker sounded marvelous to me, and that's after almost 20 years of playing thru greenbacks, so i'm kinda used to that sound.

i have an isolation cabinet, and i switch different drivers out in it (eminence legend 112, greenback, celestion vintage 30, carvin british) and none of them have that round warm sound that the heritage does...

Gonzo, that's a great link and it's cool how Celestion is trying to reverse-engineer their own product.

just for clarity..

the new Heritage G12H i have, does NOT sound like my G12m greenbacks.

that said, i like it much better.

on the celestion site, they have a page that has comparisons of sound clips, you should browse that a bit as well....

the G12H-55 will not sound like a Blue, but it really sounds great.

i LOVE the sound of a pair of blues in both a Vox AC30, and a Bogner Shiva combo.

the G12H, affords a higher wattage driver, so you can push it a bit harder, and i think it lends itself more to closed back cabs than open.
YMMV
