Hi all - What a great day today.

*Finally* got the isolation booth installed, and found it, well, mediocre  Anyway, making loud noises is slightly less noisy now :p

So after

  • Buying a cheap a$$ Fender Blues Jr amp
  • Buying a cheap standard SM57 dynamic mic
  • Buying a few cables
  • buying a cheap a$$ Indie PR1 guitar
  • Selling the cheap a$$ PR1 pickups and installing Seymour Duncans (Yep, they were'nt much good at all)
  • After experimenting with the '57 and it's position to the amp
  • Installing a (free) iso booth so the neighbors ans wife won't kill me

we get finality. Now I can go and put down some (attempted) tasty tracks on some recordings that are in need. This will be the finish of some of my songs.

I'm still amazed that for such a cheap amp (about AUD$750) you can get a tasty tone (obviouly a personal opinion), with the overhead of having to crank it loud to get the results. I think the Blues Jr won't replace a small Messa boogie combo (that I tested in the shop and was considering) for an extra two grand or a chunk chunk machine if I sold one of my children but for my purposes these higher gain amps can be simulated with the POD XT.

As you can probably hear, the Blues Jr just can get that super saturated distortion associated with more purpose built amps, at least not with my gear.

Here you go, download a sample HERE of the stock Fender Blues Jr from (almost) clean to mega dirty, with the help of a T-rex Moller pedal. Yep, I went overboard with the pedal, but the t-rex is seriously good for my purposes.

I know there are a few people talking Blues Juniors here, they might be interested.

Cheers,
FM

I have a Blues Jr; its a great little amp for the $$. It does some things very well.

Not looking to sidetrack your Blues Jr thread...can you post your iso-booth experience over on the studio building forum, as there are many new builders who want to go down that path for their studios...thinking that a small, dead booth will somehow "improve" the sound of whatever is in it.....

Sounds really really f()*&(*& good...

ol 57 on a B jr..amp....

nice and clean, no buzzerds and drywall sounds...

Wow, I could swear there's some squash on this! Very nice.

You mean compression? Yes, a touch of compression.

You can hear that?

Oh right, I figured this was a straight-up tone test - blues junior, guitar, sm57, no processing. But yeah, I can hear some compression on those cleans. Sounds great though, go with it.

It's Compression, ping pong delay, reverb.

So a long way from clean!

While I love hearing demos like this, the fact that you've got the T-Rex in there kind of skews things to the point where it's probably not that useful for someone considering a Blues Jr. unless they get or have that T-Rex.

I really liked the sound though, especially the clean. I've got a Blues Jr. and I can't get it to sound good, but then I can't crank it. I need an iso-booth big time, but I don't have the time or money at the moment.

Anyway, nice clip. Sounds good. I'd like to hear it with a strat and tele, too.

Ahh well, sorry about that.

If there was no t-Rex, I imagine it would sound like any other stock Blues jr, varied by the my mic position, room, guitar, pickups and string gauge etc.

I was more just enjoying the fact that I had bought and built a bunch of stuff.

I'll post my crappy iso booth at the studio building forum (at Miroslav's request) when I get some time. I really wish my iso booth cut more sound, but that's probably more time and money better spent elsewhere. I guess I have to realistic on how noise there was to begin with!
