In the swamps of Jersey
I'm having a new ceiling put in my basement room. I don't need a heavy soundproofing but now that the ceiling is open should I put insolation between the floor joists? If so do I use standard insolation or do I go for something like a 703 or 705? The joists are 2x8 with plywood on top of them with either hardwood floors or carpeting on them. The guy doing the work even suggested putting 1 inch tracks parallel to the joist and attach the drywall to those. He said that would make less transfer of sound to the room above. I usually don't record any amps in that room. Usually we use a pod and the bass goes through a preamp. That leaves the drums as the loudest thing down there. The basement is just about all below ground level. The closest house to me is about 30 feet away and the guy who lives there has a band so he never hears me. I don't record late into the night so any suggestions?
