CE2K MP3 question

I record myself playing drum loops on a roland V-kit and record in stereo 44.1khz 16 bit. I then convert it to mono and save that as well.I also need MP3 .
When i convert to MP3 the file that is saved seems to have a bit of silence added to the beginning and the end.
Any ideas how to stop this happening?

Am I wrong or do you mean Cool Edit 2000 when you say CE2K? That software is not made by Sonic Foundry. There's a Cool Edit forum here too at Home Recording.com which is probably a better place than here for this question.
