I'm a bit confused. Both are wave editors for two track mixdowns, correct? They seem like similar products, but Sound Forge is $299 and Cool Edit 2K is $69. Why the big price difference? I'm currently using Goldwave, I'm ready to buy something new...tonight!
Thanks for your patience,

I've used both, and I think that SoundForge is the best (that's why I bought it ;)). It has a lot of options, it's fairly easy to use, it's laid out logically (which I don't think of CEP sometimes) and it comes with a load of tools for you (the plugins are great!).

But there's no way I can tell you what you like to work with ;). I suggest you download the demo's, and test them yourself. They you can decide if SoundForge is worth the extra money.

:)

CoolEdit 2000 is not directly comparable to Sound Forge, but to the "lite" version, Sound Forge XP.

Sound Forge compares to Syntrillium's flagship product, CoolEdit Pro, which is more closely aligned in price.

As far as specific feature sets, I'm sure the websites offer feature charts that you could compare.

Doh!

I automaticly thought about Cool Edit Pro.... :p

I dunno about Cool Edit 2k, but Cool Edit Pro's interface beats Sound Forge hands down IMO, Sound Forge looks like a cheesy peice of shareware or something. I only use it for CD Architect (I admittently have an older version. 4.5).

So is Sound Forge a multitrack program? I was under the impression from the website that it's only a wave editor like Cool Edit 2K. That's what made me wonder why it was so much more expensive. Tried the download a couple of times. Once it wouldn't open, another time it froze up my computer. Syntrillium's downloads have always worked for me, so I bought Cool Edit 2K last night. I'm a little dissapointed that there is no parametric eq, looks like I'll be buying their plug-in.

Cool Edit 2k is a simple version of Cool Edit Pro, they are almost teh same, but 2k has half the number of effects and in mulitrack recording 2k sucks. CEP2 is good. Donot compare CE2k with Soundforge, You can compare CEP2 with sound forge they both costs the same, if you have CEP2k you can upgrade to CEP2 for a lesser price.
In my opinion Cool Edit Pro is better and convenient than sound forge in so many ways.

You couldn't be more wrong. Never judge software by looks.
