CDR funky sex machine

Is there such thing as a computer based CDR with RCA inputs? If there was, then I could have the soundard bypassed sound quality of a standalone CDR, plus the CD authoring capabilities and versatility of a computer based CDR.

I think my friend's work had an external 2x CDR with RCA inputs. Maybe I should just go steal it.

Sounds like you'd want a S/PDIF I/O soundcard and an external standalone CDR/RW.

Even if the drive has RCA plugs on it then it's probably not going to be much better than running through your soundcard. Any time you take an analog signal into a digital device you've got A/D converters which are not going to be great in consumer grade products.

It is best to try and stay as digital as possible and spend good money on A/D converters at the source. Basically what doc said, except that having an internal or external drive isn't going to make a lick of difference. Your weak point will still the A/D converters whereever the analog signal is entering your digital system.

How about the new Alesis MASTERLINK CDRW?

I've been researching the product and You can input your two-track mix into its hardrive and then, push a few buttons and, Voila, you have a CD done in Red Book Standards which will play on any CD player except the one in somebody's truck. [ha]

They are asking about 1441 dollars for the Masterlink. I think I might go that way since my MD-8 has an RCA out and the Masterlink will accept that. I do believe the "converters" are pretty good quality. They should be for the money.

Yamaha also has a new CDRW box out but it looks more complicated than the Alesis.

Anyone else using the Masterlink??? Good or is it Ka Ka?
