CD-Rom not auto-dected

I'm running XP. My CD Rom drive won't auto-run and consequently Windows doesn't automatically detect when a new cd is inserted in the drive. The first time a CD is in the drive, My Computer recognizes the cd's contents but after ejecting that cd or dvd and putting a new one in, it doesn't update the contents and the computer won't consequently recognize a possible change in format. I've checked the device manager and the drive is supposedly "running properly".

Any ideas. Thanks for any and all.
