Cd ripping. Sound quality loss???

Easy question I'm sure. If a song were to be ripped from a cd to a computer, and then burned to a cd again, is there any sound quality lost in the process? FYI, I'm using a TDK velocd burner with nero. I plan on doing some minor editing on a cd, but I don't want to If I may lose some sound quality.

Yes, it is possible, although rare if the disk isn't messed up.

Go look for a program called "Exact Audio Copy", it'll get you the best possible copy you can get, which in some cases might be better than the CD (e.g. I've used rippers on occasion to successfully copy CD's that were unplayable due to scratches).

If the ripping program does it over the IDE bus, instead of taking it from the analog audio line, then there's actually a chance you'll IMPROVE the quality of the audio, due to the elimination of jitter when you rip digitally. you'll replace it with the CD-writer's own jitter when you re-record though, so be sure to write at the slowest possible speed to reduce jitter. of course, damned if you or anyone else on this planet will actually be able to notice if it's better or worse. it's all theoretical. i've never been able to hear jitter on ANYTHING before.

Thanks guys. I've concluded that there should be no discernable sound quality loss. The cd I'm duplicating from is scratch free and I'm using a brand new tdk cd writer. Of course I'm now going to try a few things and see how they send, and post the results later.
If anyone else has any info on the topic, feel free to post.
I'll probably still try that Exact Audio Copy that you mentioneed Slack. I can't help but play with new stuff.
