Okay, I'm probably going to get nailed for this, but I have to ask it anyway. I have the following, a pentium 350megahertz etc computer. Its pretty new, tons of room and fast. I record on a Roland VS-880 and I recently acquired a hewlett packard cd burner (the 8210e.) I understand how to get my mixes into the computer (to a .wav file) but I was wondering, is this the best way to record them to cd. I read you can't (or shouldn't mixdown directly to the burner, but will there be a quality loss if its a wav file? Unfortunately, radio shack is closed and the Y adapter they sold me actually doesn't fit into the recorder (i have no idea why, very frustrating) so since I cant start messing with this until tomorrow, I decided to ask. I just want to get the best possible sound on CD, because the recordings that we made sound absolutely amazing. So essenitally, my basic question is are wav files the best (and only) way, and what program should I use to create the files during mixdown (as that windows program only lets you record for about a minute). Thanks in advance,
Jeff
wav is the only way to burn audio to a cd-r .. and its not a real time process , you record your music to your computer , and the burn the wav files to cd-r.. there is 0 degradation of the wav file when burned to a cd , its an exact duplicate of the binary code..
as far as software goes , theres the cheap route , and the more expensive route.. if you arent planning on doing any multitracking with your computer , soundforge xp is a good solution on the bottom end of the price chain.. but if you wanna speand the money on a great program to master your recordings with , then soundforge 4.5 is better.. then of course there is n-track and cool edit.. theres also a free program called goldwave, but im not sure where to find it.. download all the demos and see what you like the most.. www.fasoft.com ( n track ) www.sonicfoundry.com ( soundforge ) www.syntrillium.com ( cool edit ) www.cakewalk.com ( cakewalk ) www.cubase.com ( cubase )
sorry if this post sounds a bt jumpy , i was pressed for time..
