CD player cleaner? Safe? Effective? or what.

Taking the slow road
I'm starting to have some problems with a nice old Onkyo single cd player I've had for 15 years. Are there lens cleaners or whatever for cd players? Does anyone use these things if they exist?
 
I have one, seems to work. It is simply a CD with a special lens brush built-in. Pop in the disk and follow audible instructions. 10 dollars or less at RadioShack, BestBuy, or whereever.
