I stumbled acorss a web site advertising a CD on mic pre comparisons:

http://www.3daudioinc.com/3daudio_prelp.html

I could have ignored the advertisement, but then it dropped some big names. The web site claims that technical evaluation procedures were established after consulting Dan Kennedy of Great River, George Massenburg of GML, John LaGrou of Millenia Media, Greg Mackie of Mackie Systems, and Tim Farrant of Buzz Audio.

I normally take the word "consulting" with a pinch of salt (I could have called these nice guys, asked some vague questions, and said I had "consulted" them), but then the web site claims that these companies took the trouble of sending pre-amps to the organiser for the comparison. The web site went on to say that Dan Kennedy actually asssisted in supervising the testing and level matching the units.

Is the CD worth buying? Advice would be appreciated.

I haven't even heard of the web site before.

A net buddy of mine has that CD and is amazed and highly reccomends it. PM me and I'll send you his email address. He loves to talk shop.

Dan Kennedy actually went down to Lynn's studio in Nashville to help construct the gadget that did the switching and matching.

In addition to Lynn's fine CD, Fletcher at Mercenary did one earlier called the "Boston Pre Party" with Dan, EveAnna Manley, and several other companies in attendance. Fletcher has those for sale at his Mercenary.com website.

Both are excellent.

Interesting that they included ART and dbx but not the Audiobuddy, especially given all the attention its gotten on the boards.
