CD holder jammed?

I'm new to this in just about every sense, so beg to indulge your patience with me, if this question is too tweaky to consider. Just bought a Fostex VF80CDR 8-Track Recorder with CD Burner, and like the fellow below, I have a million questions. But, first is this. I've worked through the process of recording, mastering and burning a CD (the bare rudiments only), but notice that the CD holder doesn't seem to open automatically when the burn is complete. It also seems to take a little prying to open. Am I doing something idiotic, or should I send it back for exchange? Thanks for any insights. -- John

Might want to go back to the store and try one to see if the one in the store is doing the same thing. If not, take it back.

Thanks, but

I bought it online, from Musicians Friend. So just wondered if anyone else had worked with this machine and discovered this as an idiosnycracy, or could identify a "pilot error." Thanks, bd. -- John

I've dealt with Musician's Friend a lot and they are pretty good about answering product questions within 24 hours. I'd give it a shot.

Thanks

Appreciate the reinforcement. I've already returned the MR-8, trading up to this machine, so I was a little concerned about becoming some kind of nuisance. Do appreciate you taking time to write... --John

Sounds unusual...

I have a VF80CDR. When the burn is complete, the disk should pop out. If not, then there's a problem. One thing... Like on laptop burners, you have to support the tray when you pop the CD into it. Don't just push the CD down or you'll bend the tray.

Even so, whether it defective or was broken, the tray should pop open after the burn, then the display will ask you if you want to burn another disc...

Thanks much

Yes, it would seem it should pop open, and mine doesn't without some wrangling. I really do appreciate you taking the time to write. -- John

one thing...

I'm going to hazard a guess and say the CDR drive was not installed correctly. Or maybe it was knocked out of alignment in shipping. Either way, it might help to unscrew the whole CDR assembly, and reinstall it. Or, if it was me, I'd just exchange the whole unit for a new one.

Just when I'd decided....

Well, I burned a song this morning, and the holder didn't pop out automatically, but with a little downward nudge on the button it will release. It seems like one of those borderline little things in life. Do I really want to go to the trouble to send this back? Otherwise, it seems like a good machine. What flaws will exist will another machine, etc.? I know that sounds a bit lazy, yet one wonders where to draw the line. At least you have reinforced for me that this is probably not "pilot error." Thanks, all....

It sounds like it wants to open but the button is what is causing it to hold up. Maybe it got shifted in shipping as was mentioned earlier...it sounds a little off. Maybe after a few "knudges" of the button it will eventually correct itself into opening. Not sure if I'd want to go through the return process with something that might clear up...
